VOTM Interviews: Osinachi

Voice Of The Metro: Introduce yourself to the world, homie.

Osinachi: Well, first off, my name is Osinachi Nwaneri aka “Osinachi on the tracks by the way”.

VOTM: True, so let the people know a little bit of your history and what you’ve done in the past to the present.

O: Well, my first major gig was producing Biz Markie’s “Weekend Warrior” album. In 2004, I did the music for the BET Comedy Awards. I did some music for the 2005 “King’s Ransom” movie. I did some engineering work for John Legend, for the Black Eye Peas album. I did a single for Atlantic artist Deemi called “Move”, featuring Fabolous. I did a song for Def Jam artist Young Sterling called “Juice In My Cup.” I’ve done countless songs with Wale. I’m currently preparing to work alongside with Rodney Jerkins on whatever projects he’s working on.

VOTM: That’s what’s up. Congrats on the new deal with Darkchild, by the way. So it’s 2008. What’s in YOUR plans for this year?

O: Well, for now I’m concentrating on making myself an asset to the Darkchild family. It’s good to be signed, but I feel that I have to prove myself. Just being signed is not good enough.

VOTM: Definitely. So if there was any artist you could work with that you haven’t yet, who would it be?

O: Hmmmm…I would say…Ciara. (laughs)

VOTM: Yeah? No disrespect to her, but you don’t hear that often. What makes her stand out to you?

O: I’m not going to lie…I’m just feeling HER right now. I know that ain’t professional but, hey! Sue me. (laughs) But on a serious note, she is a PERFORMER, and that is important as an entertainer.

VOTM: I can dig it. Ciara…I’m watching you, too…call me. (laughs) So like you said, you’ve worked a lot with Wale. How did that musical relationship come about?

O: Pretty much, we went to the same college. My boy Nyrik suggested that we do something together. Eventually, I met and talked with him. I pretty much was trying to find out where he wanted to take his music and we began working soon after.

VOTM: Y’all seem to have a good chemistry as far as artist-producer song structure goes. Do you both usually record at the same time or separately?

O: Honestly, both. It depends on whether he’s in town or out of town and vice versa. Either way, we make it work. We got a system.

VOTM: Do you have a favorite song that you two worked on?

O: I would say “Nike Boots”. Yeah…”Nike Boots”.

VOTM: Yeah, that definitely stamped a big mark in both of your careers.

O: Yeah, definitely didn’t expect the outcome it generated.

VOTM: It was definitely a GOOD look, though, for you both AND the area.

O: Yeah, whenever you have Nike come to DC to sponsor a “Nike Boots” party? Yeah, that’s definitely a good look.

VOTM: Word, and that show was phenomenal, by the way. CRAZY show! So what producers do you look up to?

O: Ironically, Rodney Jerkins, Timbaland, and Jermaine Dupri. Those are my influences.

VOTM: Stamp that. Kind of ironic that you’re getting to work with your one of your influences, huh?

O: Man, it still hasn’t hit me yet honestly. Its a blessing though.

VOTM: Definitely. The best things in life are the hardest to accept at first.

O: Yeah, he didn’t even have to sign me. I was good with him just saying he liked my music. (laughs)

VOTM: So we’re going to switch it up and take it to the DMV Section of questions. Favorite go-go band?

O: Mambo Sauce, Mambo Sauce, Mambo Sauce! Hands down! Shout out to Twink and my boy Chris Wright!

VOTM: Yeah, they ji’ killing it right now. Favorite carry-out?

O: Eastern’s on Marlboro Pike.

VOTM: Favorite clothing store?

O: At the moment, Commonwealth.

VOTM: Yeah, that seems to be a definite favorite from the people I’ve interviewed.

O: Yeah, that, and Target…sike nah. (laughs)

VOTM: (laughs) All about the red dot, huh?

O: Shout out to Target. (laughs) Naw, I’m playing, folks. No new rumors. (laughs)

VOTM: So name some of your favorite artists out of the area.

O: Godzend, Carty-Yeah, Wale…if you don’t know about any of these, check them out.

VOTM: Word, shout out to Carty-Yeah…WE ANTI-W.A.R. IN ‘08!!! Aight, man…thank you for the interview. Much appreciated. Keep doing it for the DMV!

O: For sure, my dude!
